Invited for the next edition of the Laver Cup (September 20-22), Rafael Nadal announced his withdrawal on Thursday, without giving any indication of a possible return to competition. The Majorcan had been training on hard courts at his academy in recent weeks, and he has not played any tournament since the Olympic Games. In his misfortune, this new withdrawal can thus be seen as good news, since he could postpone his retirement.
Far from his best level for his return to competition in 2024, Rafael Nadal failed to win a medal at the Paris Olympic Games. The 38-year-old Majorcan is very close to retirement, having played very little. During his matches, it was clear that he was no longer able to compete physically. An announcement about his retirement was therefore expected very soon. Forfeit for the Making Cuphe could push back the deadline.
