In the deep night of Thursday to Friday, Hubert Hurkacz overthrew Nikoloz Basilashvili in the round of 16 of the Masters 1000 in Toronto. Concentrated and applied, the Polish won in three sets.
In the middle of the night under the black sky of Toronto, the star Hubert Hurkacz shone in a relatively calm stadium. The surprising semi-finalist of the last Wimbledon eliminated in the round of 16 of the Toronto Masters 1000 Nikoloz Basilashvili. At the end of the effort and the test of combativeness, he dominated the Georgian in three sets 6 – 7; 6 – 4; 6 – 4, in 2 h 38 minutes.
While losing the first set in the tie-break, Hubert Hurkacz toppled Nikoloz Basilashvili in the final two sets which followed by identical scores.
The Polonaise’s spectacular comeback is a sign of his progress on the courts, since his excellent run at the All England Club in London, where he eliminated master Roger Federer. This qualification for the quarter-finals will be an additional source of motivation for him. The elusive 24-year-old is clearly aiming for the title in Toronto, following his triumph at the Masters 1000 in Miami.
