Tennis Inequality: Trungelliti Criticizes Federer and Nadal for Lack of Support

“If they ever did it, it was only internally, but it didn’t change anything,” the world number 236 continued his criticism of the two.

The background to the attack on Federer and Nadal is the unequal system in tennis. While players outside the top 100 struggle with low prize money, the stars of the sport rake in millions through prize and sponsorship money.

“As players they can be very good, but as people who are trying to improve the system in general they seem to me very poor,” Trungelliti sharply criticized the two tennis stars. The Argentine was ranked 112th in the world in 2019.

Trungelliti would have liked Nadal and Federer to have shown more initiative to support lower-class players in their demands.

Trungelliti: “Prize money still embarrassing”

Above all because of the charisma of the two, who could have contributed to improving the conditions with their support.

“Just this year the prize money for the Challengers was changed a bit, but it’s still embarrassing even though we’re supposedly coming out of the most golden era in the history of tennis,” complained the Argentine.

From the 33-year-old’s point of view, Novak Djokovic is a role model in combating inequality in tennis.

Trungelliti: Djokovic’s work “indispensable”

The Serb founded the PTPA (Professional Tennis Players Association) in 2021 and has since been campaigning for higher prize money even in the lower segments of tennis.

Trungelliti believes what Djokovic is doing is “indispensable”, which is in stark contrast to his rivals Federer and Nadal.
