• Jen didn’t make it through the qualifiers, but made it into the main event as a lucky underdog. For health reasons, the Chinese woman hesitated to take advantage of this opportunity, but in the end she decided to start with a bandaged ankle. Fighting the cold, Šviontek played the final of the Czech tournament on Sundaybut her nose is still running in San Diego.

In the eighth match of the match, the Chinese woman earned a break point and lost the next three games – 4: 4. In the ninth match, Jena hit across the field (break point), but then Svyontek made an irresistible shot – 5: 4. In the first set 6: 4.
→ → At the start of the second set, Šviontek slipped on the word “San Diego” and fell, although special attention was paid to the lines and markings of the field before the game to prevent humidity caused by rain. In the ninth game, Šviontek called for an argument the main referee, who descended from his heights and approached the superstar with a towel in his hand (the Polish woman needed to clean the slippery areas of the pitch). After the mentioned break, Šviontek took the initiative and earned five break points, but Jena ultimately held the serve – 4: 5. In his serving match, Šviontek was leading 15-40 (two set points) and also lost in the next match – 4: 6.

• This is the penultimate tournament in the fight for the WTA Finals, which will take place in the Texan city of Fort Worth in early November. Seven participants are almost already determined: officially qualified Iga Schwiontek (Poland), Onsa Jabert Tunisia) and Jessica Pegula (USA), while Coco Goff (USA), Caroline Garcia (France), neutral Daria Kasatkina and neutral can be more or less certain Arina Sabalenka. The most realistic candidates for the last ticket are neutral Veronika Kudermetova (12th WTA) and Greek Maria Sakari (7th WTA).
• Many tennis players hold a theoretical hope of qualifying for the final tournament, including world number 17 Alon Ostapenko (Latvia), which next week has to win first place in Guadalajara “WTA 1000”.
