Completely missing out on his US Open, Carlos Alcaraz seems to have put his mind back together during the Laver Cup. The Spaniard made short work of Tallon Griekspoor (6-1, 6-2) in the quarter-finals of the ATP 500 in Beijing. Thanks to this victory, his 200th career, the world number 3 surpassed Rafael Nadal’s record. And he did not hide his joy at having done better than his compatriot.

The 21-year-old did not hide his joy at having beaten his compatriot.

“I’m delighted to beat Rafa”
« I am very happy with this result. That’s a very good number. But I’m already aiming for 300 victories. I’m delighted to beat Rafa» confided Carlos Alcaraz in comments reported by We Love Tennis. The Spaniard, however, did not beat the absolute record, still held by John McEnroe. The American had won his 200th victory after only 45 defeats. Carlos Alcaraz nevertheless shows itself to be impressively precocious. Neither Novak Djokovicis Roger Federer cannot boast of such a feat.
Alcaraz learned the lessons of his failed US Open
After his US Open missed, Carlos Alcaraz pointed the finger at his preparation. “ I experienced a very intense summer with Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the Olympic Games, with few days of rest and disconnection. Few days to prepare and train for the tour, I was not able to train as much as I would have liked to arrive in New York in the best possible condition. This is an experience I will learn from in the future.» he explained. The lessons have clearly been learned.
