“It was a coincidence. I received a stack of state subsidy bills that related to various sports associations. But we knew beforehand that the tennis player manages the state’s money in a peculiar way,” says journalist Artur Janoušek, who pointed out the irregularities in the distribution of money in Czech tennis. The police have already charged five people and five companies on suspicion of subsidy fraud. She also arrested tennis boss Ivo Kaderka.

“We knew that the police were working on our findings. I had no idea that it would lead to the head of the Czech Tennis Association, Ivo Kaderek,” describes Janoušek, who revealed that a large part of the state subsidies distributed by the Czech Tennis Association goes to the inconspicuous association Orel jednota-Prague Balkan.
“I thought to myself: here is an association that receives a lot of money, when I added it up, it was a third of all the funds that went to the Czech Tennis Association to support the whole of tennis that year,” he explains in an interview, adding that, for example, in in 2021 it was about 41 million crowns for the whole year.
The Czech Radio investigative journalist also describes how he had to face complaints and attacks on his work because of the case. “I learned from the sports environment that they are trying to somehow discredit me by feeding me some false information. Then we even received information that they are trying to hire some detectives to follow me,” he says of the pressure from the tennis “powers” Janousek.
And has anything changed in the attitude of individual tennis clubs after the police raided and charged five people? Janoušek claims that some people have been contacting him since then, because they know that Ivo Kaderka had a tapped phone and the police file also contains transcripts of his calls. “Nobody actually knows what he said to Kaderek on the phone over the last year. So now they are calling and trying to find out if they are also in danger,” adds the journalist.
