“Tickets were snapped up in the first hours of going online, testifying both to the enthusiasm for tennis in the region and to the magic of a unique and emblematic place. The innovative concept of the UTS is a huge success, particularly among young people, and fully fulfills its objective of attracting new fans for our sport. It is a great pride to be able to bring this innovative vision of international tennis here, in France. Co-designed with Bastide Médical and the city of Nîmes, this project marks the return of high-level tennis in the legendary setting of the Arènes de Nîmes. rejoices Patrick Mouratoglou, founder of the competition.
An ambitious project
The Bastide Medical UTS Nîmes will pit eight of the best players in the world against each other six weeks before Roland-Garros.
The French number one Ugo Humbert and the former semi-finalist at Roland-Garros Gaël Monfils have already confirmed their participation, as well as the Norwegian Casper Ruud (triple Grand Slam finalist) and the Russian Andrey Rublev (winner of two Masters 1000 on clay in Monte-Carlo and Madrid).
The other four participants will be announced by the end of the 2024 season. Bastide Medical UTS Nîmes will be the second stage of the UTS Tour 2025 after UTS Guadalajara, which will be contested on hard courts in Mexico (February 14-16).
Endowed with 1 million dollars, the Bastide Medical UTS Nîmes will mark the return of tennis to the Nîmes Arena, an amphitheater built in the 1st century, which is associated with one of the most intense moments in the history of French tennis with the 1991 France-Australia Davis Cup quarter-final. UTS is broadcast by the biggest sports TV stations around the world and has already reached hundreds of millions of tennis fans around the world on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.
