Australian Christopher O’Connell beat American number 2 seeded Jenson Brooksby two sets to one (6-4, 4-6, 7-5) to advance to the San Diego semi-finals at the Barnes Tennis Center of San Diego, Saturday Night Session.
O’Connell, 130th in the world at the ATP, will face the winner of the match between American Brandon Nakashima, seeded No. 5, and Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan in the semifinals of the San Diego Open.
In the previous rounds of the Californian tournament, the Australian had benefited from the abandonment of Jason Kubler (4-6, 6-3 abs.), And had eliminated the American JJ Wolf, seeded No. 8 (6-3, 7 – 5).
Brooksby, ranked 50th at the ATP, won against Mackenzie McDonald (6-4, 3-6, 6-2).
