Pena announced earlier in November on Chinese social media that Weibo had been forced to have sex with Zhang Gaoli, who was China’s vice prime minister from 2013 to 2018. Zhan, 75, is a close ally of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The WTA said it was very concerned about Pen and called for the 35-year-old tennis player to be heard in a full and fair investigation without censorship.
“Pena Shua and all women have the right to be heard, not to be censored [Penas] “The accusations of the former Chinese leader’s sexual assault must be dealt with with the utmost seriousness,” the WTA said.
Shortly after the publication, Pena’s listing was deleted. She also admitted that she could not prove her allegations.
For the first time in China, a high-level political figure is being blamed for sexual violence. Jan has not commented on what the tennis player said.
Pena is a former world leader in doubles and, along with Taiwanese Suvei Xie, she has won two Grand Slam tournaments in 2013 at Wimbledon and the 2014 French Open. In the singles, Pena reached the semifinals of the US Open in 2104.
