Tenjen Lama Sherpa (35), who earlier this year set a world record in mountain climbing with Kristin Harila (37), has died.
Harila confirms this in a press release on Sunday evening.
– It is with great sadness that today I have received the tragic message confirming Tenjen Lama Sherpa’s passing, says the press release.
Earlier this year, the two climbers set a world record together when they climbed all 14 of the world’s mountains over 8,000 meters in 93 days.

Taken by landslide
It was yesterday that Tenjen Lama Sherpa and a climbing team were caught by an avalanche on their way up Shishapangma in China.
He and one other climber, an American woman, were then reported missing.
Rescuers yesterday found the bodies of the second climber and the second Sherpa, according to The Himalayan Times.
– When I heard about the avalanches yesterday, I immediately traveled to Kathmandu to assist with what I could, and to be there for Lama’s family in this difficult time, the press release from Harila further states.

– I am heartbroken
Harila is now in Kathmandu, and will be there for the foreseeable future.
– I can’t believe he’s gone. Lama is the quietest and strongest Sherpa I have ever met. I am heartbroken. I have lost a brother and a friend, says Harila in the press release.
She goes on to say that her thoughts now go to the sherpa’s family and his many friends in the climbing community.
