With the Baden regional wine and sparkling wine award, the Baden Winegrowing Association honored the most successful cellar masters in the growing area on Thursday.

The award ceremony took place in line with the new advertising slogan “Baden. The Garden of Germany ”took place as a garden party in an extraordinary location – a greenhouse converted into a restaurant in Köndringen.

In addition to the representatives of the award-winning winegrowers and the Baden Winegrowing Association, the State Secretary in the Ministry of Food, Rural Areas and Consumer Protection, Sabine Kurtz MdL, also took part in the award ceremony.
She presented the state prizes of the state of Baden-Württemberg to the three companies that achieved the best results overall in the state awards for wine and sparkling wine in the Baden growing region over the past three years.

In her speech, the State Secretary described viticulture as “an integral part of our cultural landscape.” High-quality and typical regional gastronomy and wine culture are central success factors for the agricultural and food industry in the country and our tourism, the State Secretary added. “The newly created umbrella brand” Baden.er Garten Deutschlands “will in future be an important distinguishing feature and mark of origin for the wines of the protected designation of origin Baden, the State Secretary was convinced. “We all know that in order to produce good wine, you need to identify with the product and the region. The good location alone is no guarantee for good wines. Only the high level of craftsmanship of the winemakers and cellar masters brings out the high quality of our wines. ”, Praised the state secretary.

Winemaking President Rainer Zeller also addressed the wine quality and the skills of the winemakers and cellar masters in his opening speech. “The prizes of honor are a sign of the high quality standards of our Baden operations, which is why today’s award ceremony is one of the most important dates of the year for every cellar master. They are finally receiving the reward they deserve for the top performance they have provided throughout the year, ”said Zeller.

In addition, the President was able to come up with impressive figures for the previous award campaign in 2021. A total of 1,964 wines and 76 sparkling wines were selected and tasted in 46 award dates. 102 companies from all nine wine-growing areas of Baden took part in the award. The 16 companies with the best overall result receive the prizes of the regional wine awards. An honorary prize is awarded for each of the nine areas of Baden, plus the honorary prize for sparkling wine and six honorary prizes, which are awarded according to company size. Small and medium-sized businesses also have a good chance of scoring points with their collections.

The Baden Wine Queen will lead you through the evening

The award of the honorary prizes was carried out by the Baden Wine Queen Katrin Lang, who also led the evening as a moderator and, together with the deputy managing director of the Viticulture Association, Holger Klein, and the two Baden wine princesses Victoria Lorenz and Michaela Wille, presented each award winner in short rounds of interviews. The individual program items were accompanied by live music by the piano vocal duo.

Winzerverein Hagnau eG (Bodensee), winery Julius Zotz, Heitersheim (Markgräflerland), winery Hercher, Freiburg-Waltershofen (Tuniberg), winery Achkarren (Kaiserstuhl), Roter Bur Glottertäler Winzer eG (Breisgau), winery Fellini, Rauenberg (Kraichgau), eG Schriesheim (Bergstrasse), Becksteiner Winzer eG, Lauda-Königshofen (Tauberfranken).

The Black Forest winery Andreas Männle from Durbach (Ortenau) was honored as the best Baden operation in 2021.

The prizes in the company size classes this year go to the Schwörer and Andreas Laible wineries from Durbach (both in group I – up to 19.9 ha), to the Nägelsförst winery from Baden-Baden (group II up to 49.9 ha), to the Burkheimer Winzer am Kaiserstuhl eG (group III – 50 ha – 149.9 ha), the Alde Gott Winzer Schwarzwald eG, Sasbachwalden (group IV – 150 ha to 299.9 ha) and the Durbacher Winzergenossenschaft eG (group V – 300 Ha).

The Kaiserstühler Winzerverein Oberrotweil eG can look forward to the champagne prize.

Three companies honored with state honors:

Josef Rohrer, owner of the Schwörer winery in Durbach (farm size class I up to 9.9 ha), Thomas Männle from the Black Forest winery Andreas Männle also Durbach (farm size class II 10 to 149.9 ha) and Tobias, the managing director of the Winzerverein Hagnau eG, went to the 2021 state honorary prizes Keck in company size class 3 (over 150 ha) from State Secretary Kurtz.

Also on this evening were the awards for the TOP 10 companies as well as the prizes of the wine brotherhood.
