The Canary Islands Health Service will vaccinate 24 hours a day in Tenerife to try to stop the spread of infections. As announced by the president of the Cabildo, Pedro Martín, “we are going to start with mass vaccinations in the Santiago Martín, morning, afternoon and night to try to bend the curve and end this situation that is causing so much health damage.”
The leader explained that the island “cannot continue with these numbers, we have to appeal to social responsibility.” In this sense, he pointed out that “it seems that, because we have family members who have been vaccinated and that many people are getting vaccinated, it seems that this has already happened. No, it is getting worse, and therefore drastic measures must be taken.”
In the last hours Tenerife has added 123 new infections, 77% of the total registered in the Canary Islands. In addition, the island brings together 1,200 of the 1,700 active positives in the Archipelago with special incidence in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where more than 700 cases are located.
The accumulated incidence in the last 14 days is one of the indicators that have set off alarms: the regional average stands at 82 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, the national average at 97 and the island average at 125.
The Santiago Martín pavilion has been the chosen venue as it meets the requirements to increase the rate of immunization. Martín has assured that they will look for alternatives for the planned activities because “Tenerife has no other objective than to confront the covid and there is no greater problem than this. Therefore, the Cabildo has to make every effort to find solutions.” The president has also appealed to promote sanctions to limit the cases.
