Tenerife achieves the first penalty shootout victory in its history in the Cup

Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Jan 11 (EFE) .- CD Tenerife achieved against Rayo Majadahonda their first victory in a penalty shoot-out in official competition, after having lost the first six that it had played throughout its history in the Copa del Rey.

The Blue and Whites’ team managed to prevail 2-4 against Rayo Majadahonda in the penalty shootout, thanks to the two shots that the Spanish-Venezuelan goalkeeper Dani Hernández managed to stop.

The first six penalty rounds had been played in the first qualifying rounds of the Copa del Rey, the last one in September 2014 against Girona.

Meanwhile, in October 2008 CD Tenerife was defeated by Elche CF and in January 1995 the Blue and Whites’ team was defeated by UD Las Palmas.

In January 1993 CD Tenerife lost a penalty shootout with Mallorca and in September 1983 against Güímar.

The first round of penalties in official competition was in December 1981 against RC Deportivo at Heliodoro Rodríguez López. EFE
