On January 12, Tencent Musicians officially released the “2020 Tencent Musicians Annual Inventory Report”, showing the gender, region, genre, and distribution of original works of more than 185,000 musicians across the platform. Among them, Guangdong has become the province with the largest number of original musicians, followed by Sichuan and Henan.
Musicians are young and diverse, and there are more female creators
The report announced the “China Original Music Provinces and Cities List”, the top ten were Guangdong, Guangdong, Sichuan, Henan, Hunan, Shandong, Jiangsu, Hubei, Anhui, Hebei and Heilongjiang.
In terms of gender, the proportion of female creators has gradually increased. The year-end inventory of Tencent musicians shows that the proportion of female original musicians on the platform has reached nearly 40%.
In terms of age, over 70% of musicians born in the 90s, 95s and 00s have become the main force in original music creation. It is worth noting that in addition to the post-95s who are at the top of the list with 29%, the post-00s who are still in school rank second, accounting for 24% of all platform musicians. Some musicians said that with the development of the Internet, young people have more diverse ways to express their opinions and attitudes. In the eyes of Generation Z, music is not only for listening and enjoying, but also a way and a vehicle for them to express themselves.
In terms of music types, the original musicians stationed on the Tencent Musician platform still focus on singing, accounting for 84%, but they are also distributed in production, composition, arrangement and lyrics. The top 5 music styles are pop, hip-hop, folk, electronic and ancient style, and there are more unique styles of works.
Platform upgrades “soft and hard” capabilities, and musicians’ income doubles
The report shows that Tencent musicians have achieved many results in 2020: among the musicians who enjoy exclusive incentive benefits, more than 85% of musicians’ total income has increased by more than 50%, and more than 60% of musicians’ total income has increased by more than 100%. Revenue has doubled; the annual playback volume on the whole platform is nearly 300 billion, an increase of nearly 50%; the number of original songs on the whole platform exceeds 1.1 million, which has doubled again; the total number of musicians on the platform has reached a new high, reaching 185,000, with an annual growth rate of up to 131%.
Recently, Tencent Musicians also launched the “Bo Le Project”, which provides more resources to song and music creators by soliciting excellent song and music works from song and music creators. “Bo Le Project” has invited twelve well-known songwriters to enter the premises, including famous musicians Chen Kehua, Cui Shixuan, Gao Jian, He Houhua, Liang Wenfu, Lin Huangkun, Lin Qiuli, Ruiye, Wenya, Xiong Meiling, Xu Changde, Yu Guangzhong is the top senior in the industry. As the forerunner of the Bole Project, they attract more young and new voices to join.
Explore multiple output modes
In 2020, Tencent Musicians launched many activities such as “The Force Project” and “Original Music Charts” to break the online and offline dimension. Among them, the Tencent Musician The Force plans to tour 10 cities for 7 consecutive weeks, attracting tens of thousands of music fans to visit the scene and more than 8 million people to watch online; The Force Project also launched a global selection of dialects and folk songs, with the entire schedule spanning 90 Today, in conjunction with Hu Defu, Zhang Chu, Ma Tiao and many other key players in the music industry and thousands of music fans, they launched a collection of the most warm local accents, allowing listeners to experience local culture in music.
In terms of original music charts, as of December 31, 2020, Tencent Musicians’ original list has been online for 52 issues, with 2500 songs on the list, and 52 special interviews completed. The implementation of these “extraordinary scenes” and the data presentation of the original list have brought more opportunities for the musicians on the platform to be listened to, and also created an opportunity for more emotional linkage between fans and original musicians.
