The name may not mean much to you, but Voodoo is a French company specializing in mobile games. Leader in the casual market, Voodoo has just received a reinforcement of weight.
Indeed, Tencent has just acquired a share capital, becoming one of the minority shareholders of the company. The amount of the investment is not known, but thanks to it, Voodoo’s valuation rose to 1.2 billion euros. No change is to be noted at the management level, since Alexandre Yazdi, co-founder of Voodoo with Laurent Ritter, remains the majority shareholder and CEO.
However, this investment does not only have a direct financial interest, since it will allow Voodoo to enter the Chinese market, armed with its hit, Helix Jump, downloaded more than 500 million times. Moreover, and as indicated The Digital Factory, this integration into the Chinese market and WeChat will be simplified by the fact that Voodoo games do not have in-app purchase options. As an indication, know that Voodoo claims 3.7 billion downloads au total.
We’re excited to welcome Tencent, a company we admire for their consumer games and apps. We look forward to developing new products together for the Asian market, and releasing games created by the many talented studios in this region, declares Alexandre Yazid.
