Tencent is busy conquering the West. Not only with its own games, but also through (partial) acquisitions and own studios. They recently bought a large share from the Swedish GTFO maker 10 Chambers.
Tencent has bought a large share of developer 10 Chambers Colective. That reports Gamesindustry.biz.
“We needed a partner who would give us the creative freedom to reach new heights while continuing to support the GTFO community over the long term,” said GTFO Director Ulf Andersson of the investment. How much the Chinese giant has invested in the Swedish developer is unknown, but the studio describes it as a ‘large share’.
10 Chambers Collective is a small studio consisting of a number of former employees of Starbreeze, known for the Payday games. The studio is currently working on GTFO, a popular co-op shooter.
The acquisition is part of Tencent’s strategy to acquire more global game studios. For example, it recently opened Lightspeed LA in California with former employees of Rockstar, 2K Games, Respawn and Sony. It also invested heavily in Spec Ops: The Line maker Yager.
