Left 4 Dead, Evolve and Back 4 Blood developer Turtle Rock Studios has come into the hands of Chinese giant Tencent through an acquisition of its parent company.
While many gamers feel loathing towards Tencent, TRS itself presents it in a blog post as something positive. “By joining the Tencent family, we not only gain access to their vast resources and expertise, but we have found a partner who encourages us to be ambitious and visionary. Although our company has been acquired, we will remain independent and will continue to be run by our founders Phil Robb and Chris Ashton.
2021 has been a truly exceptional year with the launch of Back 4 Blood and our new partnership with Tencent. 2022 and beyond will take us to new heights. We are expanding our team to support Back 4 Blood and develop new exciting multiplayer experiences. We will continue to communicate transparently with all of you, give you updates on our progress through our Trello board, and expand on what makes Back 4 Blood so special. On top of that, we can do something we’ve never been able to do as a studio before: transform a universe we’ve created into a long-running AAA franchise. We can now rest assured that the Back 4 Blood franchise is here to stay and will continue to work on it well into the future.”
