Old rent

Written by Dalia Al-Dhanini:
Sherif Al-Jaar, legal advisor to the Tenants Association in Egypt, said that according to the latest statistics, there are about 35 million apartments divided between old and new rent and ownership, and there are approximately 20 million people living in 10 million rented apartments who are threatened with abandoning their housing and being evicted on the streets in the event of abolition. Old leases.

Al-Jaar explained, during his meeting with the journalist Azza Mustafa on the Tahrir Hall program broadcast on Sada El Balad channel, that the decision to set a minimum for tenants of 1,000 pounds, and a maximum of 5,000 pounds, is an unfair and unconstitutional decision according to Article No. 83 of Egyptian law.

The legal advisor to the Tenants Association pointed out that the state calls for jumping on the rulings of the Supreme Constitutional Court in the event of canceling old lease contracts, explaining that the tenant bears the full bill of economic burdens, and he must be relieved and provided with some possible tools, and that there are about 6 million citizens threatened by eviction. On the street due to the increase in rents.

He also pointed out that there are no rental prices for shops less than 350 pounds, and there are no shops paying rents of 10 pounds or 50 pounds at the present time, as some say.

He pointed out that there is a problem that seems serious to tenants, which is subletting, meaning that the tenant under the old contract rents the apartment with another contract that is higher than the contract agreed upon between him and the owner, and solutions must be put on the discussion table.

Al-Jaar expressed his disagreement with a proposal to set a minimum and maximum rent between 1,000 and 5,000 pounds, which would be placed on a contract that extends up to 3 years and is continuously renewed, commenting: This proposal is unconstitutional and contradicts the articles of the law that are somewhat among the tenants.
