When Apple introduced the iPod to the world, MP3 players already existed, small music carriers on which you could store and play music digitally. The first version of the iPod appeared in 2001 and was presented by Jobs. But to him, the iPod wasn’t just a music player. The device was beautifully designed and had trendy white earphones.
The iPod clearly had the stamp of Jonathan “Jony” Ive, the British designer who went on to design new products under Jobs, including the iMac. Suddenly the iPod became a must-have and it was cool to be seen with it (before the earphones were all black). Later, the competitors started copying the white ears.
