Ten women launch breast areola micropigmentation consultation after breast cancer at Can Misses – Noudiari.es

Marta Bombardó, nurse from Can Misses.

NouDiari / Since March of this year, the Ibiza and Formentera Health Area has a Micropigmentation consultation of the areola-nipple complex aimed at women who have undergone immediate reconstruction for breast cancer.

So far, there are already ten women who have started a treatment consisting of two or three micropigmentation sessions and who have been prevented from being transferred to the Son Espases Hospital, in Mallorca, to apply this technique.

The number of sessions varies according to the case of each patient, the type of intervention to which they have undergone and the retention of pigments. The objective is to achieve a natural effect that resembles the contralateral areola or the areolas that it had before being operated on.

For this expansion of the service portfolio of the Plastic Surgery Service, the Can Misses Hospital nurse, Marta Bombardó, was trained in the Plastic Surgery reference service of the Son Espases University Hospital.

The micropigmentation of areolas allows camouflaging postoperative scars of the areola and correcting asymmetries between both breasts. In case a nipple has not been reconstructed, a 3D effect is created to give volume after the oncological reconstruction. With this, the result is much more satisfactory for women both physically and psychologically.

“It is a minimally invasive outpatient treatment that is practiced using a dermographer whose internal motor moves the microneedles, injecting the pigment between the superficial layers of the skin, making a ‘semi-permanent tattoo’ that will need a color retouch over the years. It is painless, since we first put an anesthetic cream to avoid any discomfort, ”explains Marta Bombardó.

The nurse specialized in this technique also emphasizes that “it is important to follow a series of simple recommendations regarding care during the following days, such as using healing cream and covering with gauze without rubbing until proper healing is achieved. Fifteen days later, I see the patients in the consultation to assess the result and I make an appointment for the next session if necessary ”.

The treatment can be done both in summer and winter, although in the summer period it is recommended to avoid the sun and long baths.

The new practice cares for thirteen patients, of which ten have already started treatment. Nine of the total have been derived directly from the consultation of the specialist in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery of the Ibiza and Formentera Health Area, Dr. Ainhoa Placer, after immediate reconstruction for breast cancer. Four more women have been recovered from the waiting list at the Son Espases Hospital, in Mallorca, where they had been referred before having this new benefit at the Can Misses Hospital.

The Micropigmentation consultation is located on the first floor of block B of External Consultations. There, two or three Fridays a month, Marta Bombardó will avoid the transfer to Mallorca of about twenty women who have been operated on for a breast neoplasm with immediate reconstruction.

“It is a part of my work that I did not know and it fills me enormously to be able to accompany and help these brave women to close the hardest episode of their life, possibly by drawing for them what for them is a key part of their feminine essence,” he concludes with satisfaction Marta Bombardó.
