“This terrorist attack has failed and Saleh is healthy and well,” the head of Saleh’s press office said after the terrorist attack.
One of Saleh’s subordinates told the AFP news agency that a suicide bomber had attacked a Saleh convoy on his way from the vice president’s home to work.
Several nearby buildings and shops caught fire as a result of the explosion.
Saleh, the first deputy president of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghana, promised in a short video after the explosion to continue the fight against terrorism.
He confirmed that several of his guards had been injured in the blast and that a large number of civilians had been injured, killed or financially injured.
Saleh is known for his strong stance against the Taliban. On Sunday night, he interviewed a local broadcaster Tolo News said the Taliban are terrorists and that violence is at their core.
The Taliban have denied any involvement in the attack on Saleham.
In a July 2019 suicide bombing and shooting at Saleh’s personal office in Kabul, 24 people were killed and 50 injured. Even then, Saleh managed to escape intact.
