Ten of Jong Ajax defeated by Jong AZ

The duel in Amsterdam started quietly. The first danger came after a corner kick by Jan Faberski. The Pole found Aaron Bouwman, but his header lacked direction and ended up in the hands of the goalkeeper of the visitors. A little later Charlie Setford had to take action after a hard shot by Jong AZ.

Banel scores
Halfway through the first half, Jong AZ came close to scoring twice: first captain Jorn Berkhout headed against the post and then Setford saved again after a long-range shot. It was Jong Ajax that took the lead just before half-time. Jaydon Banel jumped highest from a corner kick and headed in from close range: 1-0.

The lead was still endangered in the final phase when Kaplan committed a foul in the sixteen-meter. It meant the second yellow card for the Turk and a penalty for Jong AZ. However, Lequincio Zeefuik’s effort was saved by Setford, which meant that the Amsterdammers went into halftime with a small lead and ten men.

Goals against
Frank Peereboom brought on Nick Verschuren and Don-Angelo Konadu for Banel and Julian Rijkhoff at the start of the second half. With one man down, Jong AZ increased the pressure and the Ajax players were forced back into their own half. This resulted in the equalizer in the 55th minute. A ball from Jayden Addai fell over Setford into the far corner: 1-1.

The same Addai was brought down in the penalty area by Lucas Jetten a little later, causing the referee to point to the spot again. The number seven of Jong AZ scored and put his team ahead three minutes after the equalizer.

Vitesse away
The Amsterdammers then tried to snatch a point from the fire when they were outnumbered, but big chances failed to materialize. Jong Ajax’s next match is on Saturday at Vitesse. That duel starts at 18:45.
