Ten people were injured when eight cars of the Long Island Railroad (LIRR) derailed, the commuter train network that connects Manhattan with the counties of Queens, Brooklyn and Long Island.
The Metropolitan Transport Authority (MTA), which manages the line, said on its Twitter account that the ten wounded have been treated for “minor injuries.”
The LIRR incident, which had left the popular Grand Central station on 42nd Street, east of the city, and was heading to Hempstead (Long Island) occurred before noon near the Jamaica station in Queens.
Fire trucks moved to the scene to remove passengers from the overturned wagons, as well as ambulances from the emergency service, according to local media.
