Erik ten Hag sees that there is work to be done for Ajax in the run-up to the Champions Leaguematch against Sporting Portugal. The trainer was not satisfied with the game of the team from Amsterdam against PEC Zwolle (0-2), although Sébastien Haller could charm him.
“He always scores”, Ten Hag says in front of the camera of ESPN about his striker. “Since January, when he joined us, his stats have been phenomenal.” Nevertheless, he was not pleased with Ajax’s performance. “It was too hectic, we suffered too much and unnecessary loss of the ball. It is not the case that PEC had a chance, but they were threatening. We should have made the 0-2 earlier.”
“What was the cause? After such an international match, it is indeed often difficult,” continues Ten Hag. “You have to start playing football again in a different composition, so the automatisms – which may not yet be one hundred percent – will disappear again. Then you will see a lot of discomfort in the game, both in the defensive and in the attacking part. we played with a different type of number ten, which by the way did very well,” he refers to Steven Berghuis.
Berghuis replaced Davy Klaassen, who, like Maarten Stekelenburg, was missing due to an injury. Whether they will be present in Lisbon on Wednesday is uncertain. “It will be a race against time for them.”
