Manager Manchester United Erik ten Hag already made a number of big decisions including getting rid of Cristiano Ronaldo. Ten Hag said he didn’t have trouble sleeping.
After MU suffered defeat in their first two Premier League games, Ten Hag bravely sent Ronaldo to the bench for the game against Liverpool. Even though at that time Ronaldo was the Red Devils’ top scorer in the previous season (24 goals), and had a strong influence among the Old Trafford public.
The decision proved to be the right one as MU managed to win back-to-back wins, but the sweltering megastar stayed on for a long time bench. Ronaldo began to behave by refusing to play as a substitute in the Tottenham Hotspur match so that Ten Hag had to be suspended.
Peak frustration Cristiano Ronaldo happened by carrying out a controversial interview with Piers Morgan. In the process, Ten Hag firmly decided to permanently kick Ronaldo out of the MU squad which led to early termination of his contract.
“I have my reasons anyway. They are very clear and I also know the consequences. It can have negative results. It’s always possible in football, but I’m not worried. I also sleep well, even in those nights,” said the 53-year-old manager at Mirror.
“I have to make decisions in terms of moving the club and the team forward. That’s my job and it’s a responsibility that I have, and I have to stick with those decisions.”
“I have to face the consequences and the impact of my decision, not only in the short term but also in the long term,” continued the former coach of Ajax Amsterdam.
“Of course, you don’t always have a lot of time. In that period I remember we had 10 days so I could consider which option is best. You always have to think strategically, but that is my job and a responsibility I have to take on, ” Straightforward Ten Hag.
So far the results Ten Hag it proved telling because Manchester United is on a brilliant run. MU managed to end their drought of titles by winning the English League Cup, and still survive in three other competitions: Premier League (3), FA Cup (quarterfinals) and Europa League (round of 16).
