The fire broke out in the night between Thursday and Friday in a seven-story residential complex in the Vaulx-en-Velin district. The fire started on the ground floor and spread to the third floor, firefighters told French media.
About 170 firefighters and 65 fire engines were deployed to put out the blaze. Ten people, including two firefighters, were slightly injured. It is not yet known how the fire started.
The fire is now under control, firefighters said. The area around the building has been cordoned off.
