From the reality show Temptation Island No new season will be made for the time being, reports RTL. The broadcaster first wants “more clarity” about reports from former participants who say they have suffered psychological complaints as a result of their participation. RTL and producer SimpelZodiak want to discuss this with the reporters.

Bee Temptation Island a number of couples from the Netherlands and Belgium are separated from each other in a tropical location. A group of singles tries to seduce the men and women. The program revolves around the question of whether they can resist this; RTL describes it as ‘the ultimate relationship test’.

Mental health problems

Last weekend the AD published an interview with former participants Aylin and Efrain, who stated that there was manipulation in the program, including the images that the two were shown of each other.

They are said to have suffered major psychological problems afterwards and Aylin says she has made two suicide attempts. After discussions and a mediation process with RTL and SimpelZodiak, the couple received 30,000 euros in compensation.

The couple is assisted by lawyer Sébas Diekstra. Twelve more former participants reported to him after publication of the article. According to the broadcaster, no new reports have been received by RTL itself.

‘Break of program remarkable’

“Several clients find the fact that the program is only now being paused due to the fuss is remarkable, to say the least,” Diekstra said in a statement. “What is striking is that a large proportion of the complaints were already known.”

RTL and Diekstra had a conversation last week, in which RTL director Van der Vorst indicated that he wanted to talk to the reporters. The lawyer says he will get back to that soon.

Whether and how the reports will be followed up legally should become clear later. Diekstra: “In the near future, we will try to work with others to gain as much insight as possible into what happened behind the scenes.”

RTL director Van der Vorst further calls it “extremely important to personally hear the experiences of these (former) participants themselves”. He also says that “intensive aftercare” is provided and that “the purpose of penalty clauses” is discussed extensively with participants.
