Traffic over the bridge that connects the Crimean peninsula to the Russian mainland was temporarily stopped overnight on Sunday. It is unclear why.
The bridge was reported to be closed, before around twenty minutes later it was reported that it was open to traffic again. The operator responsible for the operation of the bridge has not given any reason why it was closed.
The bridge has been repeatedly attacked since Russia invaded the neighboring country a year and a half ago, and Russia claimed earlier this week to have averted an attack on it. It was completed in 2018, four years after the annexation of Crimea.
Ukraine claimed responsibility for an attack in July on the bridge using what has been described as a naval drone.
The 12-mile-long bridge across the Kerch Strait was severely damaged in October 2022 in an explosion that Russian authorities say was caused by a truck blowing up the bridge.
