Al-Sharq learned from an informed source that Hamad General Hospital, one of the hospitals affiliated with Hamad Medical Corporation, will be suspended for two years to maintain it, strengthen its infrastructure and strengthen the fire protection system in line with the standards adopted in the country.
In his statements to Al Sharq, the source confirmed that the temporary closure of Hamad General Hospital will not affect the outpatient clinics in the first phase of the closure or the operating rooms, but will include the inpatient department who will be transferred within the protocols approved by Hamad Medical Corporation that are consistent with applicable international standards. In such cases, they were distributed to two hospitals: Aisha Bint Hamad Al-Attiyah Hospital, which is the second largest government hospital after Hamad General Hospital, and the Medical Care and Research Center, which is located adjacent to the Daily Medical Care Center, the Qatar Rehabilitation Center and the Women’s Health and Research Center, explaining that the closure decision was planned since 5 years.
The source explained, “The Hamad General Hospital development project is part of the Public Works Authority’s projects, and the purpose of the temporary closure is to subject it to maintenance, as it is one of the oldest hospitals affiliated with Hamad Medical Corporation, to renew the infrastructure, safety systems, and fire protection, as the date of Transportation is expected to start next September ».

Which opened in October 2022, which is the largest government hospital after Hamad General Hospital with a capacity of 300 beds for inpatients, of which 232 are for general and acute diseases, while the rest of the beds, which number 68 beds, are used for critical patients. The hospital includes an emergency department, operating rooms, and a gynecology department. obstetrics, neonatal intensive care unit, outpatient clinics, robotic pharmacy, medical laboratory services, VIP inpatient rooms and critical care rooms.
