Wednesday, February 28 marks one year since the Tempe tragedy, the day 57 people lost their lives in the train accident that blackened our country.
Today, in an atmosphere of emotion, a trisago was held at the site of the tragedy by the Metropolitan of Larissa and Tyrnavos Hieronymos, in the presence of relatives of the victims, local bodies and ordinary citizens.
“It’s a heavy day because we remember these 57 people who were unjustly gone. These people are in the center of our thoughts and prayers. Everything else we hear these days is close to it. Know that you honor someone a lot with silence and prayer” said the Metropolitan.
“You don’t honor him with dancing. Once again the petty politics come to cover the essential debate, that is how to make the railways safe, no tiring words are needed, these souls will find vindication only when the railway will be safe and things will work properly. In time, our own advice is so that the dead do not remain one more memory of a sad accident, we should all work together to move the place forward as a whole. God rest them,” he said.
Earlier, according to ERT, a memorial service was held in memory of the 57 victims at the Holy Church of Agios Thomas in Makrychori, Municipality of Tempo.
