Catapult the plenary meeting of presidents of Greek bar associations, which submitted a memorandum to the special appellate investigator and at the same time conducted a multi-page technical report by a special expert to clarify all aspects of the accident.
As the president of the Plenary Assembly pointed out, it is “our disagreement with political interventions, because the Ministry of Justice recently likes to intervene in this case with an undue intervention in the work of Justice”.
In fact, they also refer to the “ineffectual, inconvenient and unfortunate in our view, issuance of the circular-directive of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Supreme Court, which gives directives not only to its hierarchical subordinates but also to the judges investigating the case in a more communicative type of initiative that interferes with the work of ordinary justice”.
The third point in their announcement is that “before the accident, the country should have established, based on community directives, national safety regulations for all transportation in the country, including trains. Something he has not done even today, despite the tragic accident, which demonstrates that we have learned nothing as a country from this tragic event.”
Finally, they emphasized that “until today, it has been too late for the middle carriages of the blame train to be called to question, that is, the people who managed the sinful contract 717, while responsibility must also be attributed to the train drivers-politicians responsible for the train”.
The entire announcement of the plenary session of presidents of Greek bar associations:
In a meaningful and not symbolic way, the Plenary Session of the Bar Associations of Chora commemorated the one-year anniversary of the tragic accident in Tempi, contributing to the judicial investigation of the case, by filing a supplementary memorandum accompanied by a technical expert report.
“Our hearts are in Tempi, in the souls of the people who left and in the families of the dead. We chose to do something simply symbolic, but something essential to support and help the investigative work to the extent of our responsibility, with our performance with submission of a memorandum to the special appellate investigator and at the same time conducting a multi-page technical expert report by a special expert, whom the Plenary chose, Mr. Anastasios Dede, in order to clarify all aspects of the accident,” pointed out the president of the Plenary, K.D. Vervesos.
In the press conference given by the delegation of the Plenary, three points were underlined that they raised today, during their visit to the investigator and the prosecutor of appeals who are investigating the case.
The first point, as the president of the Plenary Assembly emphasized, is “our disagreement with political interventions, because the Ministry of Justice recently likes to intervene in this case with an undue intervention in the work of Justice”
The second point is “the ineffectual, inconvenient and unfortunate in our opinion the issuance of the circular-directive of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Supreme Court, which gives directives not only to its hierarchical subordinates but also to the judges investigating the case in a more communicative type of initiative that interferes with the work of regular justice.”
The third point is that “before the accident, the country should have established, based on community directives, national safety regulations for all transportation in the country, including trains. Something he has not done even today, despite the tragic accident, a fact that demonstrates that we have learned nothing as a country from this tragic event.
He also emphasized: “Until today, it has been too late for the middle wagons of the train of responsibility to be called to question, that is, the people who managed the sinful contract 717, while the train drivers-politicians in charge of the train must also be held accountable.”
For his part, the president of the Larissa Bar Association, Tryfon Tsatsaros, speaking about the national tragedy, pointed out: “admittedly, no words can convey the magnitude of the pain and anger. From the very first moment, the legal body made a clear request: that there be a rapid and complete investigation of the causes and, of course, that the responsibilities be attributed in depth wherever they belong, however high they reach.”
The presidents of the Bar Associations also participated in the Plenary delegation:
Dimitris Finokaliotis (Thessaloniki), Ilias Klappas (Piraeus), Christos Stratigopoulos (Volos), Asimina Striba (Katerini), Kostas Papanikolaou (Greveno) and the plenipotentiary lawyer Vassilis Cheirdaris.
