Temperatures of up to 70 Degrees Expected for Sunday in Parts of Our Area – NBC New York (47)

During this season, New York City has reported some days with warmer than usual temperatures, and another day of records is expected this weekend.

For the fifth time in less than four weeks, a record for the city and its surroundings is approaching. The Authority on Weather expects us to tie or break daily temperature records in Central Park, Newark, Bridgeport, Islip and Poughkeepsie on Sunday.

Some areas even have a chance of registering 70 degrees, even though it’s still technically winter.

The warm air arrives thanks to the winds from the southwest, with possible wind gusts between 30 and 40 mph in the afternoon. The downside is that with the heat comes the possibility of light, scattered showers early on Sunday.

Rain totals will be well under a half inch, though most areas can expect to see at least some rain. Despite possible rain some sunshine could be seen by Sunday afternoon amid warm temperatures.

However, don’t get too used to the heat. While temperatures will remain around their usual highs for much of next week, along with rain on Monday and Thursday, temperatures will drop again next weekend. There could even be some snow Saturday night into Sunday, which will feel like winter all over again as a cold front moves in, pushing temperatures back into the 30s.
