Kesa (24th) was cool in various places. Temperatures were in the single digits in 80% of Hokkaido, and there were places in the Kanto region where the temperature dropped below 10℃ for the first time this season. Also, on Mt. Fuji, after the first day of autumn (August 8), it is the first day of winter (minimum temperature is below 0℃). The daytime will be broadly sunny, and there will be many midsummer days with maximum temperatures of 30°C or higher west of the Tokai region, and there will be many summer days with temperatures of 25°C or higher in Kanto to Hokkaido. The air is dry and crispy, but the temperature difference between morning and daytime is large in northern Japan. Adjust your clothes accordingly.

80% of cases in Hokkaido are in single digits, Kanto region is below 10℃ for the first time this season

Kesa (24th) was covered in autumn air and felt cool in various places. The lowest temperature (until 9 a.m.) was in the single digits in 80% of Hokkaido, and in Shumarinai, Horokanai Town, it was 2.4℃, the lowest temperature in the country this season (excluding Mt. Fuji). The temperature in Sapporo was 12.0℃, the lowest of the season, and in Asahikawa, it was 8.0℃, the lowest of the season in Thailand.

The Kanto region also got colder, with temperatures dropping below 10 degrees Celsius for the first time this season in places such as Torobe, Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture, 8.5 degrees Celsius, Okunikko City, 8.9 degrees Celsius, and Kusatsu Town, Gunma Prefecture, 9.1 degrees Celsius. The temperature in central Tokyo was also 19.4℃, below 20℃ (since September 8th).

Additionally, the temperature at Mt. Fuji dropped below 0℃ from the night of the 23rd to the morning of the 24th, marking the first day of winter (minimum temperature below 0℃) since the first day of autumn (August 8).

In addition, Nagoya City, Osaka City, and Fukuoka City all recorded minimum temperatures of 20.9℃, the lowest of the season.

Temperatures rise during the day; midsummer days with temperatures above 30℃ occur one after another west of the Tokai region

During the day, it is expected to be sunny throughout the country, with plenty of sunshine and temperatures expected to rise. The maximum temperature will continue to rise above 30℃ in Okinawa, Kyushu and the Tokai region. Temperatures are expected to rise to 31℃ in Fukuoka, Osaka, and Nagoya. However, since the weather will be covered with autumn air, the humidity will be low and it will be very hot.

From Kanto to Hokkaido, there are many places where the temperature is around 25℃. The temperature in central Tokyo is expected to be 27 degrees Celsius, Sendai 25 degrees Celsius, and Sapporo 22 degrees Celsius. You can wear short sleeves comfortably during the day, but it can get chilly in the mornings and evenings. The further north Japan is, the greater the temperature difference between morning and evening and daytime.

[Morning minimum temperature → Expected maximum temperature]
Shumarinai 2.4℃ → 21℃ (temperature difference about 18℃)
Asahikawa City 8.0℃ → 22℃ (temperature difference 14℃)
Oku-Nikko 8.9℃ → 25℃ (temperature difference about 16℃), etc.

In summer, even if the temperature difference between morning and daytime is more than 10℃ (minimum temperature 25℃ → maximum temperature 35℃), you can wear short sleeves all day, but in autumn (minimum temperature 18℃ → maximum temperature 28℃), you can wear short sleeves during the day. Even if you are comfortable with short sleeves, you will need long sleeves or something to cover up in the morning and evening.

It is said that if the temperature is 5 degrees Celsius, the difference will be one layer of clothing. Adjust your clothing wisely by layering.

Temperature and clothing: feel safe

Generally, if the temperature is above 25℃, you will want a short-sleeve shirt, and if it is below 20℃, you will want a long-sleeve shirt. If the temperature drops below 15℃, you will need to wear something like a cardigan, and if it drops below 10℃, you will need to wear a coat.

In central Tokyo, there are many days when it is necessary to wear light clothing in the morning and evening, but from tomorrow, the 25th (Monday) onwards, we will again experience midsummer days with maximum temperatures of over 30℃, and on the 28th (Thursday) it will reach 33℃. It’s going to be very humid and very hot.

From now on, there may be midsummer days with temperatures above 30℃ until mid-October. This is the time of year when the temperature difference between morning and evening and during the day becomes large. Adjust your clothing wisely by layering.
