Tempe: Trucks… of contradictions for the crime spree – 2024-04-16 19:35:56

Serious contradictions emerge from the testimonies of the witnesses who attempted the scene of the crime of Tempe and prove beyond doubt that the cover-up is not the product of a conspiracy but a self-evident fact. The narrative about when the soil was transported, by whose order and for what reason, but also what it contained changes at will.

As the on-site investigation at the privately owned Pandremenou plot, where up to 25 truckloads of dirt were transported, it was not just bushes and holly trees, as the company owner stated in his depositions, as it was full of train debris.

The “junk materials” contained debris

The only thing certain is that the 25 trucks with materials from the scene of the crime contained debris, as revealed by the on-site investigation of experts at the privately owned land of Padremenou, where they had been transported. In other words, it is obvious that it was not just about bushes and holly trees but about crucial elements and convictions. Given this, it is imperative that all of the above be investigated by the competent investigative authorities.

“We moved the soil by order of the fire brigade”

After the case file that was formed following the lawsuits of relatives of the victims for the so-called bottling of the area, the prosecutor of Larissa called as witnesses the managers and operators of the machines of the Pandremenos company. It is one of the companies that collected thousands of euros for the business in the area of the tragedy.

Athanasios Pandremenos, owner and legal representative of the company, in his testimony on January 18, 2024 claims: “On the second and third day we removed all the cubic soil to clean the area (woods, holly trees, grasses, bushes), either with the loaders or with the hoes, I estimate it was about 300 cubic meters (20 truckloads) which we deposited on a plot of land owned by us, by order of the Fire Department because they did not need them, in order to have access, which are still in this area.”

Two months later, Ath. Pandremmenos was also called by the investigator conducting the main investigation in the Tempi case. He took a deposition from him on March 21, 2024, at which point it is revealed that there is a second location to which evidence from the crime scene has been moved.

Ath. Pandremenos this time changed his version of events and testified to the investigator: “We built, shaping the ground, an earth platform, on the left side of the accident site, that is, on the side of the Tempe valley, in order for them to climb through of this ramp to the platform the telescopic cranes and to operate from there by lifting the wagons. We actually made a loader access for them to an abandoned field next to where the wagons had fallen, which had olives, almonds and holly trees. We leveled these and basically leveled the space for the cranes.

This field had been checked by the Firefighters before we intervened. The above soil of the field together with the uprooted trees from the above configuration of the ramp and the platform, which configuration was done about 50 meters away from the place where the wagons were lying, left towards the valley of Tempi, we initially left them a little more beyond there.

However, because they were obstructing the search and rescue operation, we were asked by those who were coordinating the operation, that is, by the people who were inside the accident site, people from the Fire Department, the Civil Protection (they were wearing vests) and in general the rescue crews who were trying to rescue them. move away from where we deposited them. […]

We loaded the field soil and the uprooted trees and transported them to a plot of land near the accident site […]. The soil and trees I mentioned above totaled about 20-25 truckloads. This started happening from noon on 1/3/2023 to noon on 2/3/2023. I took these soils and the uprooted trees there on my own initiative since I didn’t know where to take them. I randomly chose to take them there, I could have thrown them away.”

Findings and contradictions

  • Chronological difference: In his first statement, Ath. Padremenos informs the investigating authorities that the removal of soil took place on the second and third day, while in the second statement he claims that the transfer started at noon on the first day (March 1st) and ended at the same time on the second day (March 2).
  • Who gave the order: Both of Pandremenou’s statements show the involvement of the fire brigade in the transport of soil. He talks to both about an order from the fire department. But there is an important difference. In his first statement he states that the soil was specifically moved to his plot on the orders of the fire department, while in the second he states that he randomly chose that spot himself and could have thrown it away!
  • What was the business reason for the landfill: Initially, Ath. Pandremenos spoke of forming a square 50 meters to the left of the accident, because the fire brigade had poured a lot of water, resulting in mud and difficulty in accessing vehicles. In his most recent testimony, he talks about creating an earthen platform so that through this ramp the telescopic cranes can operate to lift the wagons.
  • What was transferred: Contradictions also arise as to the cargo that was ultimately transported from the collision site. Initially, Ath. Pandremenos claims that he transported holly trees, bushes, wood, etc., while when the investigator asks him the same question, soil is added to the transported load.
  • Unsubstantiated claims: The photographic and video footage shows very clearly that the infamous square 50 meters away in an empty field, as the machine operators call it in their statements, is in fact where the burning wagon and its wreckage ended up, just a few meters from the site of the accident. However, neither version seems to be correct, at least from the available photographic material. There is not a single photograph showing any earthen platform from which telescopic cranes operate.
  • The questions are reasonable which are caused regarding what may have intervened and drastically changed the crucial evidence that Ath. Pandremenos testified. The investigating authorities should investigate these significant contradictions in the statements of the owner of the company. Relatives of victims, injured, survivors, the entire Greek society is clamoring for answers.

The fire department denies giving the order

For its part, the fire department denies any involvement in the excavating and the filling that contributed to the complete alteration of the site, effectively denying the testimony of Ath.

Sources from the Fire Department tell Documento that in the critical hours after the incident, their concern was to extricate the occupants and later retrieve the bodies of the victims. They state unequivocally that they had nothing to do with the removal of 25 truckloads of soil and other materials from the scene of the tragedy, saying that no order was given from their side, essentially refuting the words of Ath. Pandremenos.

Moreover, in his sworn testimony at the criminal court of Larissa on January 10, 2024, Evangelos Falaras, coordinator of Fire Services of Thessaly and Central Greece, stated: “We asked the bulldozers to clear the surrounding area, the area around the operational action of the accident, of grass , bushes and mud which were present due to the rain so that they could better approach the vehicles and the personnel with the equipment, for the extrication and removal of victims.

With the arrival of the cranes and because there was a 110 cm diameter natural gas pipeline under the space and under a pressure of approximately 38-50 atmospheres, they were requested to come in to further shape the space.”

A little further down is Evang. Falaras states: “There is no specific SOPP decision by which the Region is instructed to remove a volume of surface soil, but this became necessary in order to clear the area, to level any soil irregularities and to shape it with safe materials so that the cranes can operate without danger to the conductor and to themselves due to the heavy weights”.
So what does the fire department operation coordinator tell us? That tons of evidence was removed from the scene of the accident and he had understood nothing.

Documento had even contacted Evagg. Falara when a short time ago ND MP Dimitris Markopoulos pointed out from the floor of the Parliament the fire brigade as being responsible for the alteration of the crime scene. He had categorically denied his participation in any alteration of the space, while he had emphasized that what was done was for operational reasons.
To the question of whether he was involved in the excavation and planting of the field, he answered: “No. I didn’t ask for exhumation, I asked SOPP to bring me the equipment to give me the opportunity to check and identify dead and alive. For the subsequent interventions, I on the Friday that I left had even checked if there was anything under the sheets, which were very close to the tunnel. In other words, it was the last point and the wagons that were not involved in the collision had also left”
