Not only did they alter the scene of the tragedy, giving the order to excavate and fill the accident site early, but at the same time they throw the blame ball at each other, showing disrespect to the memory of the victims, to their relatives and to the judicial authorities who are looking now answers for the “spots and monsters” that occurred.
At a time when all of Greece had its eyes on locating the dead and rescuing the injured, political actors and state officials sidestepped the investigative authorities investigating the incident, in this case ELAS as defined by the relevant legislation, demonstrating an extremely suspicious haste to… sort out the scene of the tragedy one by one.

The then regional governor of Thessaly, Kostas Agorastos, contradicts himself as to who gave the order for the early laying. The then Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister, now Deputy Minister for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Christos Triandopoulos, head of the government echelon who from the first moment went to Tempi and a few 24 hours later was proud of the interventions at the site of the accident, after the revelations of the last few days put the responsibility on the coordinator of the Fire Services of Thessaly and Central Greece, Evangelos Falaras. For a magnificent emptying to come from the latter, who in his statement to documentonews.gr denied that the fire department had any involvement in the destruction of evidentiary material by excavating and then cementing.
Documento untangles step by step the tangle of government actions that smack of a cover-up regarding the commercial train and what exactly it was carrying to cause an explosion of such magnitude, as revealed in the shocking video recently released.
This is not a conspiracy theory but unanswered questions caused by the findings of chemical substances at the accident site, as shown by the reports of the experts appointed by the relatives of the victims, as well as by sampling by the State General Chemistry (GCHK) that had passed in the… dooku. To the point that a year after the tragedy reasonably arises again and
the same question again: What was the merchant train carrying? And what would have been revealed if the site of the tragedy had not been excavated and buried?

The truth of the videos
One of the persons who is in the vortex of the cyclone is Chr. Triantopoulos. For months now, the president of the Association of Relatives of Tempo Victims, Maria Karystianou, had claimed that Mr. Agorastos had told her that Mr. Triandopoulos was the one who gave the order for the crime spree. On Ch. Triandopoulos had also named Thanos Pleuris in his testimony to the parliamentary inquiry committee as the “head” of the government echelon that rushed to Tempi immediately after the accident.
The same Chr. Triandopoulos, in his statements to television stations a few days after the accident, was criticized for what appeared to be restoration of the site and in reality was the disappearance of elements in the middle of an open investigation, first by excavating and then by cementing.
On March 7, 2023, Chr. Triandopoulos, in the role of coordinator, told Sky: “The operational part that we ran in those days was […] to proceed quickly with the entire process of collecting and restoring the area… A project that was run in collaboration with all the agencies involved, with the railway companies, with the region mainly, with the fire department, with the police, but also with many private individuals who got involved for to be able to restore the space”.
On the same day speaking to the local channel TRT he was clearly proud that he organized the “restoration” of the site.
“Since Thursday, we have been with government staff in Tempi, in Larissa, so that with absolute respect for the victims, the families and the Greek society that closely follows the developments, the process of collection and restoration of the site of the tragic accident can proceed” he said characteristics.
However, last Friday speaking in the Parliament, Chr. Triandopoulos changed course, claiming that “the authorities who participated in the coordination meeting at the request of the fire department decided the interventions and configurations in the areas for such a major accident”.
“I didn’t give the order”
Shortly after, Evang. Falaras, coordinator of the Fire Services of Thessaly and Central Greece, in his statement to documentonews.gr categorically denied that he himself gave an order for cementing.
“I asked for the cranes to come in to lift the weights and as part of that action the cranes – for the sake of field stability – I asked for stable objects, cobbles and tesserae, to come in, in order to step on solid ground, because that was shifting as the wagons were being lifted ” initially said Evagg. Falaras and added: “No, I did not ask for exhumation, I asked SOPP to bring me the equipment to give me the opportunity to check and identify dead and alive. On the Friday I left we had even checked to see if there was anything under the sheets, which were very close to the tunnel. That is, it was the last point and the wagons that were not involved in the collision had also “gone”.
“Kolotoumbes” Agorastos
The attitude of the then district governor K. Agorastos, who is now accused of breach of duty, about who gave the order for the early massing of the accident area also makes a sad impression.
Initially, in August 2023, K. Agorastos, responding out of court to M. Karystianou, pointed to Mitsotakis’ ministers and the Civil Protection Coordination Organization (SOPP) as being responsible for the cementing.
He stated at the time: “All actions and the role of the Region, as determined by the Special Plan and in its implementation, is supportive and concerns the assistance in means and infrastructures, as indeed it was exhausted in the support of what was legally decided during the two extraordinary meetings of the Civil Protection Coordinating Body (SOPP) which were convened at the request of the coordinator of the Thessaly Fire Services”.
Months later, and while relatives of the victims of the tragedy have filed a supplementary lawsuit for the arbitrary burying as well as the transfer of materials from the site, the prosecution requested to receive Evagg’s affidavit. Falara. Prosecutors were investigating whether there was a decision by the SOPP that instructed the district to proceed with interventions at the accident site. “There is no specific SOPP decision by which the Region is instructed to remove a volume of surface soil and to cover the spot with any other material,” Evagg points out in his testimony. Falaras.
From the investigative investigation it has emerged that significant interventions were made without having been requested from the Region of Thessaly and without obtaining any permission from the judicial authorities.
There is not even in the relevant case file a document ordering the guarding of the place and stopping it, a document of permission to intervene at the scene of the tragedy, while until recently the competent agency (GC) had not responded in writing even about the results of the sampling from the accident site.
Months after the tragedy, the prosecutors summoned Agorastos to testify without trial, as a suspect, that is, for the commission of offenses related to the early patching of the accident site. It was not long before he was finally prosecuted for dereliction of duty. The Agorastos side filed a memorandum in which it did not respond to the substance but gave explanations-fireworks that were intended to disorient rather than shed light on the causes of the tragedy. He threw the blame ball at the police, the fire brigade, the DG of Civil Protection, the prosecution and investigative authorities.
Speaking broadly and vaguely he referred to a business
under the auspices of the DG Civil Protection and did not give any answer as to who exactly gave the order to move the wagons to another plot of land before the corresponding samples were even taken and indeed before the preliminary investigation and then the investigation were carried out.
Karystianou burst out
The infuriating shift of blame from Annas to Caiaphas began after the public intervention of the “mother of Tempes”, M. Karystianou, on a television show, when she claimed that K. Agorastos had conveyed to her that Chr. Triandopoulos was the one who gave the order for the plastering of the place of the tragedy.
A few days ago, the Buyer publicly responded to M. Karystianou that he never mentioned the name of Chr. Triandopoulos. Apparently, M. Karystianou did not wake up one fine day and imagine the name Triandopoulos. Something happened and the truth is that the behavior of the persons involved raises questions.
Last Friday, M. Karystianou, with her statement on documentonews.gr, asked for clear answers about who gave the order, personally addressing Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. “Gentlemen, a gag order has been given. As a minimum for us and for society as a whole, it is to give a name to this criminal and insulting act… There are crimes for which justice is the only way… You must show respect for the person, his values and the laws of the country you swore to serve” he emphasized among other things.
