Telstar star does ‘Van Basten imitation’: ‘Made my mother happy tonight’

Sebastian Soto had it on his hips Friday night during the game in between SC Telstar in Helmond Sport. The twenty-year-old attacker scored both goals for Telstar in the 2-0 victory.

Shortly after the break, Soto put his team on a 1-0 lead with a goal that secretly reminded a bit of Marco van Basten’s goal at the European Championship in 1988, although the distance to the goal for Soto was somewhat shorter.

The Telstar striker was on the phone with someone after the game and the reporter from FOX Sports couldn’t help but ask. “That was my mother”, the match winner laughs. “She messaged me right after the game: she’s a great inspiration. She sent me the video of the goal, but she also said I should have made three”, Soto laughs. “I think I made her happy tonight.”

The comparison is quickly made with Van Basten’s goal. “Yes, I know. My teammates have already told me. I think you guys love it, haha.”
