A shared second place, one point behind the leader. Telstar has rarely started so briskly. It could have been even better because last week the young talents of AZ held Telstar to 0-0. A duel in which Telstar failed to build up a substantial lead, especially before half-time. The transfer window also affected Telstar. Cain Seedorf is already the third player (after Thomas Oude Kotte and Jay Kruiver) to join Roda JC. Jeff Hardeveld (FC Emmen) and old acquaintance Mohammed Hamdaoui joined the ranks and top scorer Zakaria Eddahchouri has been retained for the White Lions for the time being.
”Telstar team with a lot of energy”
”Telstar is a team with a lot of energy and a special system,” concluded MVV coach Edwin Hermans beforehand. Little of that was evident before half-time. ”What a weakling,” grumbled a Telstar who grumbled loudly during half-time with a beer and a bitterbal in his hand. The man in question did indeed have a point. MVV cherished possession of the ball, but created nothing and also conceded a counter goal of incredible beauty. Jayden Turfkruier performed and his rock-hard shot hit like a proverbial bomb. One more moment, but before half-time that Telstar could do something positive offensively. The visitors’ keeper choked on a through pass and if Youssef El Kachati had been a bit smarter, he would have given Tyrone Noslin the chance to put Telstar 2-0 up before half-time. Now his goal was disallowed for offside.
Two world goals from Jayden Turfkruier lead to euphoria in the stands
When Mees Kaandorp made it 2-0 just after half-time, it was a close call for MVV that was then beaten to the punch. Jayden Turfkruier seized the momentum again. The strongly playing ”pitbull” cut himself free on the left and with his ”chocolate” right foot he not only shot hard but also very well placed the ball diagonally into the net; 3-0. A gem! After that, a huge defeat for the visitors threatened, but only Zakaria Eddahchouri managed to score another goal after some nice preparatory (foot)work by substitute Mohamed Hamdaoui. With fifteen minutes to go, Telstar went on a fiery hunt for the fifth goal, because that would mean that Telstar would pass leader De Graafschap on goal difference in the rankings. However, that did not (just) succeed, but the comfortable 4-0 victory generates the necessary self-confidence for the next two tough away matches against Excelsior and ADO Den Haag. MVV coach Hermans needed only two words for his analysis afterwards. ”Outplayed, outplayed,” he said disappointedly. And that’s how it was and not otherwise…!
