The counting of votes in the Nordland constituency has created a drama that can have major consequences for the distribution of seats throughout Norway.
–
– Waiting in excitement for the final result, says the Liberal Party’s André Skjelstad from Nord-Trøndelag to VG.
He is in fact one of the three who can now get a seat in the Storting due to the counting drama in Nordland.
When 97.3 per cent of the votes have been counted, the Conservatives have lost a seat in the Storting to SV – but only 77 votes separate them.
If two parties change seats in an electoral district, all equalization mandates must be recalculated. It could potentially trigger a chair game across the country.
This is the domino effect in Nordland:
- It is SV’s Mona Lill Fagerås (49) who at the last minute is about to hijack the direct mandate that Conservative Marianne Dobak Kvensjø (41) had.
- Fagerås from SV was already in the Storting, because she had been given a so-called equalization mandate. But if she now wins a direct mandate instead, then the equalization mandate goes to Geir-Asbjørn Jørgensen (48) from Rødt.
- Thus, the Conservatives have lost a mandate, Red has gained one, and this is the gang that will go to the Storting from the constituency Nordland:
But it did not stop there, for:
- When Rødt won the equalization mandate in Nordland, Rødt’s Hanne Lise Fahsing (47) in return lost an equalization mandate in Nord-Trøndelag.
- The equalization mandate in Nord-Trøndelag then went to the Liberal Party’s André Nikolai Skjelstad (56).
- In return, the Liberal Party’s Solveig Schytz lost her equalization mandate in Akershus. It went to the Conservatives’ Hårek Elvenes.
And thus the balance was restored, all the parties have as many in the Storting as before, but there are other people. And several of those who celebrated a seat in the Storting yesterday may have lost it to a party colleague in another county.
- These have lost their place due to Nordland: Conservatives Marianne Dobak Kvensjø (Nordland), Rødts Hanne Lise Fahsing (Nord-Trøndelag) and Liberals Solveig Schytz (Akershus).
- While these can sit in the Storting: Rødt’s Geir-Asbjørn Jørgensen (Nordland), Venstre’s André Nikolai Skjelstad (Nord-Trøndelag) and Høyres Hårek Elvenes (Akershus).
– The election is not finished until the county municipality is finished
The Conservatives have already updated Kvensjø’s CV on their website, where she is described as a parliamentary representative. Yesterday, Nordland Høyre cheered for two seats, and Kvensjø then wrote on his public Facebook profile:
«Thank you very much for the trust Nordland We reached the goal with 2 seats from the Conservatives in Nordland. Now four exciting years await the Storting together with Bård Ludvig. I look forward!”
Although most things were clear on Monday night and Støre is in the process of government negotiations, the election is not over.
– The county municipalities make their control count after the municipalities have finished with their two. The election is not finished until the county municipality is finished. The late advance votes are counted now, says communications adviser Kristina Brekke Jørgensen in the Norwegian Electoral Directorate to VG.
Tap on each candidate to see how far they are from gaining or losing a mandate:
Aust-Agder: Could have moved mandates between the parties
There could also be counting drama in Aust-Agder, where few voices at one point separated Sps Gro-Anita Mykjåland (45) and Frps Andreas Arff (41). As 94.5 per cent of the votes have been counted in control, TV 2’s election expert Terje Sørensen believes it can be stated that Mykjåland will get the direct mandate.
If, on the other hand, it had gone to the FRP, it could have moved mandates between the parties, he explains:
– If Frp had received the direct mandate, they would have lost the equalization mandate, which would have gone to Rødt. Thus, Rødt would have received an extra, while the Center Party had lost a mandate.
CORRECTION: In an earlier edition of this article, VG wrote that Agderposten reported that Frps Andreas Arff was in parliament. The correct thing is that Agderposten reported that Marius Nilsen (Frp) is about to take the mandate in parliament. This was changed on 14.09.21, at 23.24.
