The surname of the lawyer Fernando Atria became a trend on Twitter this Saturday. But not because of his teaching capacity or because of any proposal for the New Constitution. José Antonio Kast, the leader of the Republican Party, accused him of failing to comply with a requirement in the registration of his candidacy for constituent.
According to La Tercera, Kast filed a claim before the Elections Qualifying Court (Tricel) against the candidacy for the Constitutional Convention of Atria. According to the former deputy, the university professor – who goes through district 10 as an independent on the Approve Dignity list – does not meet the requirement of not having been affiliated with a party in the nine months prior to the registration deadline (January 11 ) “.
“Mr. Atria has presented his candidacy as an independent within a pact, without complying with the requirement of not having been affiliated with a political party within the nine months prior to the expiration of the term to present declarations for candidacy, as long as he was, within of said term, affiliated to the political party in formation called “Common Force”, of which he was also President, until October 2020, “says the document presented by Kast.
The republican helmsman took advantage of the instance to launch against Servel and pointed out that the body “should not have accepted the registration of Mr. Atria. He was the founder, organizer and President of a political party and although that party has expired its status as A militant, as an organizer, it was not erased. It does not meet the legal requirements, therefore, it cannot be an independent candidate. “
It is worth mentioning that the Electoral Service (Servel) did accept Atria’s independent candidacy, however, there was an established deadline to claim the body’s resolutions. This lasted until January 28, the day Kast filed the appeal.
Atria replied and Twitter where he indicated that the “Servel accepted my candidacy without objections. You (Kast) are claiming against the Servel ”.
