Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia Telkom Indonesia Group Business Development Director Honesti Basyir, revealed the signs of a successful startup candidate.

According to the former Managing Director of Bio Farma, startups will become big if they can collaborate with big industries.

“Startup companies, yes, they will grow big if they can also collaborate with big industries,” Honesti said at the CNBC Indonesia Tech Conference 2023, Tuesday (23/8/2023).

Then, he recounted his experience during the pandemic, where there was a startup in the biotech field that at that time had a prototype of a reagent product that had been imported so far. But they can manufacture and downstream the product.

“In just six months, the benefits are not only business-wise, because if there’s a pandemic, I don’t want to talk about business, so I’ll talk about humanity. How many tests do we do so we can know the disease,” he explained.

This role is being developed by Telkom. When collaborating with startups, both of them must have the same vision. This means that it is not only looking for profit, but also benefits for society at large.

For startups who wish to receive support from Telkom, he provides conditions. The first thing to look at is who the founder is, then whether the startup has a strong team. Then what about the unit value and the proportion of the startup itself.

Telkom itself is now focusing on becoming a digital telco. This state-owned company is aggressively collaborating and even acquiring startups that, if needed, are within the Telkom ecosystem.

Telkom also made venture capital and made some big investments in startups. From here they learn how to foster startups without burning money, so Telkom is looking for startups that are in line with the company’s mission.
