– The takeover of VMware by Broadcom slowed down by Brussels? After announcing the acquisition of the virtualization specialist for 61 billion dollars, Broadcom has begun to seek authorization from regulatory authorities including the European Commission. Traditionally, a “phase 1” investigation is carried out by the services of the Directorate General for Competition of the Brussels executive for a period of a few months. But according to the Financial Times, the European authorities plan to go ahead with a more detailed so-called “phase 2” investigation, which could take well over a year, jeopardizing the completion of the takeover. Broadcom will have to give assurances that the operation does not lead to abusive behavior with, in particular, possible price increases.
– Toshiba received 10 takeover proposals. According to Reuters, eight of them provide for the privatization of the company, while two allow it to remain listed on the stock exchange. – Instagram is testing the AI to verify the age of users. Using a third-party solution developed by Yoti, the social network added an option in its age verification policy. Usually, supporting documents such as a scan of ID had to be sent and then only when teenagers try to change their date of birth to make them appear to be 18 or older. Instagram is normally prohibited at least 13 years old. The application has just integrated two additional options to certify the age: the social certificate (or at least 3 adult subscribers certify the age of the person) or the estimate via the AI. You will then have to send a selfie which will be processed by Yoti’s AI.
