Telework strongly recommended again: are corporate umbrella organizations satisfied? Pieter Timmermans of VBO responds to HLN LIVE | Coronavirus what you need to know

Starting next week, working from home is strongly recommended again. That was decided yesterday at the Consultation Committee. Enterprise umbrellas were rather scared that teleworking would become an obligation again. Are they now satisfied with the measures that have been knocked off? Pieter Timmermans of the Federation of Belgian Enterprises (VBO) reacts at HLN LIVE.

According to Timmermans, the measures are “a logical step” after the sharp rise in the corona figures. The director of the FEB emphasizes that the main focus should now be on vaccination. We must use all possible means to convince those who have not yet been vaccinated to do so. According to Timmermans, awareness plays a major role in this. According to him, we need to know who has not been vaccinated and why, “then we can take targeted action”. “The virus kills people, the vaccine saves people,” says Timmermans.

Mouth mask obligation at work

Timmermans emphasizes that employers cannot oblige their employees to be vaccinated. “That is a general question that must come from politics, so an employer cannot decide that alone,” it sounds. With regard to the mouth mask obligation, Timmermans believes that it should also apply at work. “In the general generic guide, which includes recommendations such as keeping distance and hand hygiene, it is also recommended to wear the mouth mask,” he concludes.

“Companies not the biggest source of contamination”

Hans Maertens, managing director of the Flemish network of companies (VOKA), thinks it is good that the measures allow companies to arrange the work organization themselves, both with regard to telework and mouth mask obligation. “Let the companies organize the health and safety of the employees themselves and this in consultation with the trade unions,” says Maertens.

According to him, it is ultimately the choice of the employer whether or not to determine whether a mask obligation applies in the workplace. Maertens also emphasizes that at work, unlike in cafes and fitness rooms, the same people usually come into contact with each other. Finally, the director of VOKA believes that companies are not the biggest source of contamination.
