Televizier announced on Tuesday that the prizes for best presenter and best presenter will be merged this year. This makes way for a new prize: the Televizier-Ster Impact. Jeroen de Goeij of Televizier tells NU.nl that everyone can participate in the prizes, but that there is no need to become part of a social discussion about this.
By Michiel VosWith the decision to no longer award prizes for men and women separately, the Gouden Televizier-Ring follows award shows such as the Grammys and the Brit Awards.

The Dutch Golden Calves have also done this before. When the Netherlands Film Festival announced last year that it wanted to make the acting awards “gender inclusive”, this met with quite a bit of resistance, also from actors.
–
De Goeij says he does not want to seek confrontation in the same way as the Golden Calves. “We don’t feel the need to become part of the public debate about whether or not to make award shows gender neutral.”
–
For Televizier, the main reason for merging the categories was not to receive another prize with the arrival of the Impact award. According to De Goeij, the procedure for voters with seven categories is already long. “We don’t want to give our voters an even bigger task,” he explains.

‘Everyone should feel at home’
In addition, the merger of the actor category had already gone well. Since 2016, a Televizier-Ster has been awarded for the best acting performance. For the first two years, men and women received it separately, but since 2018 together. Since then, only two men have been nominated and the award has been won every year by a woman, three times by Elise Schaap.

De Goeij is therefore not afraid that presenters will lose out because of the change. He especially hopes that the Televizier prices will not become predictable. “If, year in, year out, only men or women win, that’s a shame for the variety.”
–
When compiling the long list, on the basis of which the public votes later, Televizier ensures that there is diversity. Not only on the basis of gender, but also on, for example, age and the broadcaster for which the candidates work.
–
When asked whether Televizier has also implemented the change to give television makers such as Raven van Dorst, who does not identify as a man or woman, a chance at the prize, De Goeij answers in the affirmative. “Ultimately, we naturally want to be hospitable to all candidates and viewers. Everyone should be able to feel at home at the Gouden Televizier-Ring.”
