Under the pressure of a wave of political correctness that accused some of the period films of racism, the streaming services first withdrew the eight-screen title from the menu and then returned it with a pre-recorded explanation of the circumstances under which it was created and that it “ignores the brutality of slavery.”

It is true that, for example, African-American actress Hattie McDaniel became the first colored Oscar winner among actors and the first nominated black woman in the acting categories, however, the film’s nanny representative could not attend the film’s premiere ceremony on December 15, 1939 in Atlanta.

On the other hand, the rules at the time did not even allow a mention of abortion – Clark Gable had to talk about the accident – and for using the damn curse, the producer paid a fine of five thousand dollars for violating the code of ethics.

However, the Czech Television will present the film legend in the words of the spokeswoman Karolína Blinková “according to the conditions of the purchased license, to which the obligation to broadcast a pre-film does not apply”. Thank God.
