This year marks 101 years since the convening of the Constitutional Assembly and 31 years since the restoration of independence. During the May holidays, Latvian Television will offer a holiday program, inviting you to celebrate freedom and be with your family.
On May 1, LTV prepared a selection of Latvian films in the daily program – at 8.35 the TV premiere of the musical animated short film “Pea Children”, at 11.20 there will be an updated version of the art film “Apple in the River”, at 14.15 – the art film “Gift for a Lonely Woman” and at 15.30 – Feature film “Paradise 89”.
At 9.05 pm, the television premiere of director Ilze Burkovska-Jakobsen’s documentary animated film “My Favorite War” will take place – a story about growing in absurd time from the 1970s until the restoration of Latvia’s independence. Last year, the film was successful both in Latvia and internationally – here it won “Kristaps the Great” in the category “Best Animated Film”, while at the French Animation International Animated Film Festival it was recognized as the best feature film, as well as the Academy Award-winning Oscars. and a list of recommended cartoons.
At the end of the day, at 10.30 pm, the premiere of the concert “New Stars of Latvian Classical Music” will be shown. Three bright talents of classical music, young Latvian musicians who spend most of their time on concert tours, play music here in the Cēsis Concert Hall in Latvia during the pandemic year together with the youth chamber orchestra “Sinfonietta Rīga” conducted by Normunds Šnē. Pianist Daumants Liepiņš will perform Mozart’s Piano Concerto, clarinetist Anna Gāgane will get into the live rhythms of Aaron Copland, and young violinist Daniils Bulajevs will survive in the tango mood of Astor Piacola’s “Four Seasons in Buenos Aires”.
On May 4, on the 31st anniversary of the restoration of independence, the special edition of the program “Morning Panorama” will start at 7.30 on the LTV1 holiday, then – at 9.00 live from Riga St. Jacob’s Cathedral will feature a traditional Ecumenical service.
At 12.00 live, a remote formal sitting of the Saeima will take place, while at 14.00, instead of the traditional parade, the National Armed Forces will greet the festival with an army equipment trip to Daugavpils.
Also on May 4, a rich selection of Latvian films is expected in the LTV1 program: at 12.30 the art film “Ceplis”, at 14.45 the updated version of the art film “At the Rich Lady”, at 16.25 the art film “Pūt, vējiņi”, at 22.15 the feature film “Nameja ring”. At 18.35, the musical documentary “The Eternal Engine. Raimonds Pauls ”.
On the eve of the festival at 20.50 popular Latvian family music “Garden Festival concert # in the family circle”. Juris Kaukulis, the vocalist of the group “Iron Wolf”, and his brothers Jānis and Atis Auzāni, actors Gints Grāvelis and Ērika Eglija-Grāvele, musicians Marts Kristiāns Kalniņš and Kristīne Kārkle-Kalniņa, Intars Busulis with family, actors Dita Lūriņa and Mārtiņš Egliens, cellist Valters Pūce with parents Valta and Daci Pūce, choir conductor Jānis Ozols with family, as well as Nils and Maija Īles. Responding to the invitation, Māra Sleja and Reinis Ošenieks will visit their families and talk about family relics and heartfelt traditions.
