Burkhard Ernst is not only the managing partner of the Rainer Group, an automobile specialist and real estate agent, he is also an integral part of the film business. Cult Film was founded by Ernst and Niki List 30 years ago. It all started with a TV movie called The Beginning of Something and since then the production company has made over 150 projects which have garnered a lot of attention domestically and internationally.

The anniversary year of “Cult Film” will be crowned with two new productions. The film “Schächten” has been in German cinemas since 2 December. A story from Austria’s past that is still inextricably linked to the present: the son of Jewish entrepreneur and Holocaust survivor Victor Dessauer loses faith in the legal system and decides to take justice into his own hands.

In the spring of next year, the television comedy “Angel with Limited Liability” with Harald Krassnitzer and Maresi Riegner, which was commissioned by the ORF and the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation this year, will be broadcast. Since 2018, Cult Film also has a very strong female side. Together with communication scientist and author Katharina Ernst, she has pledged to ensure more women in front of and behind the camera. Exciting next stories are already in the works, director and cast talks are underway, but the team doesn’t want to reveal anything more just yet.
