Telephone fraudsters in Dresden are trying to exploit fears of the corona pandemic

In Dresden, phone fraudsters are again at work with the so-called grandchildren’s trick. On Friday, five reports from elderly women were received by the police department. Everyone was told that a close relative with a severe corona disease was in the hospital and that the elderly should pay a large sum for urgently needed medication.

Four senior women aged between 78 and 93 from Dresden, Weinböhla and Dohna were supposed to hand over 27,000 euros each to the perpetrators. The 90-year-old from Dohna contacted her son by phone and recognized the crime. The 84-year-old from Dresden and the 78-year-old senior woman from Weinböhla did not get involved either, ended the conversation and reported the case to the police.

The 93-year-old senior from Dresden indicated that she only had 4,000 euros available immediately. Finally, the stranger wanted to collect this amount of money, but also asked for other valuables or jewelry. In the meantime, the elderly woman contacted her grandson, who came to her immediately. There was no money handover.
