Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken today met with French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian on ways to renew and revitalize transatlantic relations. The secretary underscored the United States’ desire to work with France, our longest-serving ally, as well as other partners, to address common challenges, especially with regard to COVID-19, the climate and China . The Secretary underlined the United States ‘commitment to NATO and the United States’ collective defense obligations under Article 5. The Secretary and the Minister of Foreign Affairs also agreed to continue close cooperation between the United States and France in the Sahel to ensure the future political and economic stability of the region.
