Telenet supports sharing of phone number with smartwatch via eSIM – Tablets and telephones – News

Telenet makes it possible for users to use one SIM card at the same time in a smartphone and in a smartwatch. A physical SIM card is placed in the phone and an eSIM in the watch. Apple and Samsung are releasing smartwatches with LTE support.

Telenet is the first provider to offer such functionality in Belgium and does so under the banner Telenet One Number. Several providers already offer eSIM, but not the possibility to combine one number in both a smartphone and watch.

According to Telenet, Apple will also release its LTE version of the Apple Watch in Belgium this fall. Apple does not sell Apple Watch Cellular versions in the Netherlands and Belgium so far.

Telenet specifically mentions support for the Galaxy Watch 3 and Watch Active 2 and for the Apple Watch Series 6 and Apple Watch SE. Earlier generations of Apple and Samsung watches with eSIM support purchased in another European country will also work, according to the provider.

From November 13, Telenet One Number will be available and included with WIGO and YUGO subscriptions and the KLIK business bundles. A mobile number can be linked to one eSIM. The SIM card and eSIM then use the same data and call minutes bundle.

In the Netherlands, there are also various providers that offer eSIM, but they only support use in smartphones and not yet in smartwatches. Telenet does not yet have support for eSIM in smartphones, but the provider says that support will come in the course of next year.
