Telenet and Fluvius to collaborate for faster fiber roll-out in Flanders – IT Pro – News

Telecom company Telenet and grid operator Fluvius have signed a non-binding letter of intent to set up an infrastructure company together. The new collaboration is intended to ensure that fiber optic connections become available in Flanders more quickly.

The two companies have negotiated the partnership over the past year and are now making known that they have signed a non-binding cooperation agreement. In this partnership, a new company is established under the name NetCo, which will house existing internet networks of the two companies.

Both Telenet and Fluvius currently operate their own networks in parts of Flanders. Together they say they can serve all of Flanders and parts of Brussels. The intention is to invest heavily on the network of both companies to make fiber optic available. In other parts, the NetCo network will continue to use coax to provide faster Internet connections.

Telenet and Fluvius want to take the next step in the collaboration in the spring of 2022. Then there must be a binding agreement. The companies indicate that they will not communicate further about the collaboration until then.
